Emergency Dental Treatment

Emergency Dental Treatment

Have you ever had an oral injury and didn’t know what to do or how to get the wound treated? Well, no one should ever have to go through something as such. We advise all our patients to get to a dentist at the earliest if they sustain a dental emergency. This allows the dentist to tend to the wound in time, thereby preventing it from becoming severe.

Injury to the soft inner tissues of the mouth

The mouth has a soft inner lining that is composed of tissues, nerves, and blood vessels. When you suffer physical trauma to the mouth, the inner lining could sustain bruises or cuts that result in profuse bleeding. When the wound is left untreated to heal by itself, the microbes in the mouth can cause an infection. Also, it will be difficult for you to bite and chew food. Hence, we suggest you see a dentist as soon as possible and get the wound treated. While you visit the dentist, try to control the bleeding by applying pressure on the wound using a piece of gauze and use a cold pack to reduce the swelling.

Broken, cracked, or chipped teeth

A hard blow to the mouth, such as during a sports-related injury or a bad fall can be quite traumatizing. It could even injure you so severely that you can end up having a broken, cracked, or chipped tooth. Having a broken tooth is one of the most painful experiences one can have. Usually, there is a lot of bleeding, and the patient could go into a state of shock. Rush to a dentist at the earliest while controlling the bleeding using a piece of gauze. If you manage to find the broken tooth, please do bring it along in a small container of milk. However, refrain from touching the broken off tooth as the microbes from your hand may infect it.

Other dental emergencies such as severe pain in the teeth, jaws, injured lips, damaged orthodontic appliances, bleeding gums, etc. will have to be treated as soon as possible.
