Removable Dentures

Removable Dentures

A beautiful smile is something that everyone admires in a person. Not all of us are lucky enough to have a perfect-looking smile that is absolutely flawless. Many of us may have teeth that are worn out, damaged, decayed, discolored, or even missing. Missing teeth can rob you of your confidence and also pose several drawbacks, especially if many teeth are missing.

How can you replace multiple missing teeth?

When a patient comes to our practice with one or two missing teeth, we usually suggest dental implants or bridges. However, if the patient has a lot of damaged, extracted, or decayed teeth, it is best to go for dentures. Dentures are prosthetic teeth that are made from ceramic and acrylic. They are removable and look exactly like your natural teeth.

Why should you choose dentures?

  • Dentures are removable prosthetics, unlike dental implants or bridges.
  • They can be cleaned by simply removing them from your mouth and brushing them using a regular toothbrush and toothpaste.
  • Dentures not only restore your missing teeth but also mimic your gums. This way, they form a complete restoration of your oral setup.
  • They are perfectly functional. You can bite and chew food like you always used to with dentures.
  • Patients with multiple missing teeth tend to look older than they actually are due to the sunken lips and cheeks. But, when you slip on dentures, the cheeks, lips, and chin appear fuller, thereby enhancing your facial appearance.
  • They are highly durable and strong. With optimum care, they usually last for several years together.

What are partial dentures?

While conventional dentures restore every single tooth in your mouth, partial dentures are used to replace a particular set of missing teeth. For instance, assume a patient has 12 missing teeth, but the remaining teeth are healthy and intact. In such cases, we can fabricate partial dentures to replace just the 12 missing teeth. They would sit right next to the natural teeth, and no one would ever know that you have dentures on. Such is the aesthetic quality of dentures and partial dentures.

What is the procedure involved?

As you come to our dental practice for your initial consultation, our dentist will thoroughly diagnose your condition and come up with a suitable treatment plan. Since dentures and partials are custom-fabricated according to each patient’s need, a highly-precise digital mold of your teeth will be taken. The dentist uses it to fabricate the dentures.

Once they are ready, which may take a couple of weeks, the dentist will let you know and schedule an appointment for you. The dentures will be placed in your mouth and checked for fit and comfort. If you feel uncomfortable or if the dentures are ill-fitting, the dentist makes suitable changes to them. Further, the dentist will guide you through how to take care of them.
